We asked Taylor & Hart all about their jewellery business, their focus on bespoke vintage wedding rings and the sort of service you can expect if you choose them to help design your very own unique set of rings.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, we’re Taylor & Hart and we specialise in making bespoke engagement and wedding rings. We’re all about putting our couples stories first. We want to capture their love stories, which is why we call ourselves “storytellers at heart”.

Sometimes an off-the-shelf piece just won’t cut it and as advocates of the personal touch, we ignite imaginations that bring engagement ring ideas to life. Each ring is individually designed or customised, and a design consultant will offer their guidance and insight along the way.

It’s our greatest pleasure to bring design ideas to life in designs that capture how you feel and express what words alone, simply can’t.

If you had the chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be?

We’re huge music fanatics–we even have a DJ in the team whose DJ name is Paraiba, inspired by the vibrant gemstone from Brazil’s region of Paraiba! Any festival is a great way to spend real quality time with your friends so bring them on!

Tell us about Taylor & Hart and the beautiful jewellery you create?

Taylor & Hart was founded by friends with a mission to disrupt a broken industry. Among the founders, our CEO, Nikolay, and CFO, Shane, had a vision–to radically increase transparency in an opaque jewellery industry and to give customers an opportunity to tell their unique story through custom jewellery.

But perhaps most notably, Nik wanted to propose to his partner. Traditional jewellers weren’t able to capture his ideas and he didn’t feel totally comfortable using an online retailer. The existing offerings were too standard and expensive, and so, Taylor & Hart was born.

From then on, we’ve evolved into a bespoke jewellery e-tailer whose mission embraces outstanding customer service and transparent ethical policy.

Can you tell us a bit more about your bespoke engagement rings and what makes them so unique?

We listen. Your partner is going to wear this ring, everyday, for the rest of their life. It’s special – it symbolises what they mean to you. It acts as a talisman that helps you recall memories of the greatest moments in your lives.

Customers can browse our collection of diamond engagement rings and customise any element they wish to – metal, diamond or gemstone, shape, cut, style, metal finish, engraving… We go the extra mile with you, providing help where needed. Customers can share ideas, see design ideas, view gemstone options, and ask questions through face-to-face consultations at one of our London showrooms or via email, phone, or even Whatsapp!

The combination of tech innovations and personal service allows us also to provide best of online and best of retail. You get the convenience & value of online shopping, with the touch-and-feel of buying in-store thanks to our consultations in person, or remotely.

How would you best describe the style of your jewellery and the type of bride and groom it would appeal too?

As ever, trends come and go, but vintage is always a firm favourite when it comes to engagement rings. And as fate would have it, look to the gods of trending–celebrities. One glimpse of Kate Middleton’s ring finger, Olivia Wilde’s, or Scarlett Johansson’s declares the law of the land––vintage engagement rings are in when it comes to finding the perfect modern day token of commitment.

Be inspired by design elements from the most influential eras of jewellery design–Georgian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Art Deco, Retro Hollywood… Those who opt for vintage-inspired rings have a special sentiment for tradition and with a bespoke engagement ring, you make your own history.

You mention Art Deco design. What are the typical design elements of an Art Deco engagement ring?

The Art Deco era (1915-1935) inspired a drastic change in not only jewellery, but in fashion, furniture, architecture, too. It coincided with the evolution of social freedoms and technological advancement. You’ll recognise an Art Deco ring by its swirls, ribbons and floral elements combined with bold geometric shapes. This is when the Asscher cut became very popular, and new cutting techniques introduced a fashion for baguettes, triangle and emerald cuts.

A typical Art Deco engagement ring would likely be crafted in a white metal, white gold or platinum, and would feature a large diamond or coloured gemstone.

Why should couples create an Art Deco engagement ring as opposed to buying an actual antique Art Deco engagement ring?

Creating an Art Deco or any other vintage-inspired ring lets you make the most of modern manufacturing technologies. Older rings, though beautiful, simply weren’t crafted to endure the rigours of everyday wear. Modern-day jewellery crafting will ensure the durability of a ring fit to be treasured for a lifetime.
