Bohemian Winter Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Often when we think of a bohemian styled wedding, the first picture that springs to mind is a gorgeous set up on a summers day with decor in warming earthy hues and pampas grass galore; as well as an outdoor lounge with wicker furniture, wild flowers, a peacock chair, rugs mixed with soft furnishings and a bride and groom outside being kissed by the sun. You don’t necessarily think of a winter wedding set up, where the colour palette is colder, the flowers are harsher and the setting is predominantly inside.

It is for this reason that Shelena of Voorde Camera, the creative mind behind today’s beautiful styled shoot, wanted to buck the trend and create bohemian wedding inspiration that is perfect for the winter season. She explains…

Being a photographer with an intense love for the ‘boho-vibe’, I started thinking about implementing this beautiful style, throughout all seasons. When you imagine a bohemian wedding, you quickly think of warm summer days in nature, sun kissed brides and beachy vibes. But nothing could be further from the truth. You can create a beautiful Bohemian atmosphere, even on frosty winter days.

Captured within a log cabin in a beautiful forest, right on the edge of a stunning lake, The Wintry Bohemian certainly has us sold on a boho winter wedding. We love the ideas explored here and how the decor still comes with hints of warmth and cozy nurturing undertones. It has us dreaming of toasting marshmallows on an open fire, eating dinner at candlelight and exploring wintry landscapes.

A SPOONFUL OF THOUGHTS…

Being a photographer with an intense love for the ‘boho-vibe’, I started thinking about implementing this beautiful style, throughout all seasons, without bare feet, summer heat and outdoor locations.

When searching for a location, I quickly found Iris, manager at ‘Bergsche Plas’ family restaurant and wedding stylist at ‘Lovers and Creators’ – a wedding and event management company.

This characteristic location – a log cabin, right next to a beautiful forest and a lake – fitted perfectly with what I had in mind.

From that moment, Iris took care of arranging suppliers. With the beautiful flower arrangements from Bloemenservice Nederland and the delicious cake and sweets from A Spoonful of Sugar – who also provides vegan sweets – Iris has developed these beautiful settings, perfectly.

Every aspect we thought of and discussed came together visually.

THE PERFECT LOOK…

I’ve worked with Fabiola (F.A.B.S For all your beauty services) at previous styled shoots. This kind woman has a magic touch! With hands of gold, she makes everyone even more beautiful, than they already are.

The Wild Love Bridal dresses are real gems. This shop carries the perfect dress for every bride. For this shoot, I’ve chosen a white lace dress (by Lilian West) with butterfly sleeves. Lace really fitted the boho style beautifully. Combined with the luxurious suits from New Bassy’s Fashion, it completed the picture. This fashionable suit store is truly a mecca for unique and refined suits. From colors and prints, to plain and simple, there’s a suit that suits everyone.

LET’S MAKE IT OFFICIAL…

When marriage officiant Benny passed by on my Instagram feed, I instantly smiled. I knew, right away: ‘He needs to be part of this shoot.’ Luckily, he responded in the nicest way and wanted to be a part of the team. This man, perfectly styled by Michael and Giso, radiates warmth and love. With his jovial personality and compelling storytelling, you want this man to officiate your wedding.

I absolutely love the Boho atmosphere. Especially when warm autumn tones are involved. Have you ever seen Disney’s Pocahontas? The film inspires me to always do things slightly different from others. Just like Pocahontas!

That is exactly who I wanted in front of my lens: Pocahontas! And when I came across a couple who exactly met my expectations, I didn’t hesitate to contact them. This beautiful couple, who got together in their teens, has been happily in love for over ten years and has expanded their family with two beautiful children.

In addition to all the photos, moving images can show you even more about the course of the day and really makes you feel the atmosphere. Julia, from Juul Productions, is a real winner in the in the world of videography. She makes exactly the right shots, which results in a captivating wedding video.

Last, but not one to be forgotten, Sharmilla, from Sharr’s, who provided the entire team with a delicious Surinamese lunch. Chicken with rice, tofu, sweet and sour and everything that goes with it. She is the absolute best caterer for your wedding!

The team has worked great together from the first to the very last second. We complemented each other perfectly, so It was a joy to be able to work with these talented people. In this way, I’d love to organize a styled shoot, all the time!
