We have a beautiful styled shoot to share with your eyes this Tuesday afternoon, where fine art photography meets bohemian festival styling with a rock n roll twist!

Captured by Seyi + Rochelle Photography in the incredible, atmospheric Asylum Chapel in Peckham as part of The Alternatives styled shoot workshops, this is a shoot that wanted to juxtapose the fading grandeur of the venue with vibrant alternative styling and the rock n roll flair of the couple with soft, light and romantic wedding photography…

We wanted to show that alternative wedding styling and a couple with a rock’n’roll flair doesn’t automatically lend itself to dark or quirky photography. We planned to take The Alternatives unconventional creative vision and harmonise it with our soft, light and romantic wedding photography style.

We love the rustic blue, purple and rich dark pink colour palette and the way it compliments both the dramatic fading beauty of the venue and the alternative vibe of the couple. We also love the gorgeous bouquet with its ombre silk ribbons which work so well with the ombre of the brides wedding dress and veil.

Featuring a wonderful lineup of some super talented suppliers, we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the working week!

The Venue….

To create a fine art aesthetic for an alternative couple, which was luminous and ethereal, having the right venue was essential. We wanted to show that couples can achieve luminous wedding images without necessarily having sun drenched, light filled wedding venues. This is why photographing at Asylum Chapel was so important to us. The Chapel in all its fading and proud glory, wouldn’t look a miss on the grounds of a French Chateau or Tuscan vineyard. Built in 1826 the Asylum is a stunning Grade II listed wedding venue, right in the heart of Peckham, London. The contrast of the dramatic gothic architecture with the soft pink shadows, created by the stained glass windows perfectly encapsulated the essence of the shoot – the surprising harmony between the untraditional and the classic and the beautiful co-dependency between shadow and light.

The Styling….

Jo Greenfield & Jenny Appleton (The Alternatives), the creative visionaries and driving force behind this styled shoot, carefully selected a team of suppliers (all of whom are home grown businesses) to curate a romantic, intimate ceremony in an imposing and dramatic space. The palette of rustic blues, purples and dark rich pinks with gold touches complimented the dramatic fine art visual. Natalie Danielle’s glamorous hair and make up artistry perfectly complimented the eclectic blue ombre Rowan dress and blue ombre veil from Bex Brides. The grooms’ finely tailored Dandy Thread suit adorned with floral corsage created by All Bunched Up (bridal bouquet also) set the couples look perfectly.

The Couple….

The incidental muse for this inspired shoot was actually the couple themselves. As well as being our models for the day Dathan and Kennedy are also real a couple too (with gorgeous husky dogs thrown in the mix! Although they weren’t part of the shoot)! As a husband and wife photography team we are naturally drawn to capturing the captivating connection between two people in love. Rather than reels of frames of deliciously styled ‘things’ we opted to focus on the interaction between the couple; their glances, their delicate touch, the grooms’ thoughtful reflection as he awaits his bride, the brides’ calm preparation and their first moments after the ‘I Do”.
