Rustic chic meets Moroccan opulence in today’s beautifully put together styled shoot, captured by Penny Young Photography at The Dreys, a woodland wedding venue in Kent.

The theme, which is executed so perfectly throughout the entire shoot from the decor right through to those stunning bespoke wedding dresses by Audrey Ashley Couture, was the brain child of Laetitia Rix of Makeup Angel. Laetitia wanted to explore the relaxed and informal style weddings that are so on trend right now, but with an added bit of bohemian decadence. A rich colour palette of gold, rose gold, deep red and plum was used throughout the styling to enhance the ‘Moroccan Opulence’ aspect, whilst the rustic element came from the charm and character of the venue and it’s woodland setting.

There is a lot to love about this shoot. The table setting for one is gorgeous with it’s incredible flower center piece filled with powder pink, white and red roses mixed with Moroccan style lanterns and pot plants filled with ferns. We also ADORE the wedding stationery by Chloë Ainsley Creative with it’s etched wooden feathers, bohemian luxe font and gold tassels. So very well done and perfectly matched to the rustic opulence theme.

Laetitia talks us through the shoot, her inspiration and all of the wonderful suppliers involved.

Rustic Chic Meets Moroccan Opulence…

Words by Laetitia Rix of Makeup Angel

I wanted to explore the relaxed and informal style weddings that are so on trend now. Often set in ancient woodlands and meadows with marquees and tepees hosting the reception, they lend themselves perfectly to the rustic style. However, with a nod to all things Moroccan an opulent and decadent environment can be created too. Using the rich diversity of the Moroccan design style, the wedding breakfast tables were laden with gold dipped pomegranates, lanterns, tea glasses, candles and beaded place mats. A case of more is more! A lantern set within a floral wreath of blood red roses, Bouvardia, Astrantia and Ptilotus with cerise cherry blossom and gold sprayed ferns made a stunning centre piece created by Kelly and Hicks. These blooms were also used in the bride’s bouquet with length created with trailing ferns, Solomon’s Seal and Jasmine tendrils and silk and velvet ribbons to finish. Palm leaves seen in the incredible backdrop arrangement were another nod to Morocco, a country famous for its scrumptious dates. The wedding stationery from Chloë Creative depicted the distinctive architectural pattern often seen in Moroccan tiles in deep red with gold and delicate feathers as a detail.

Eastern Opulence…

The lavish three tier wedding cake from Oh So Delicious was a real show stopper! Again, we see the traditional tile design in gold set against a vibrant pink background. Deep red, bright pink and gold were the key colours to evoke a sense of eastern opulence. A chill out zone was easily created with piles of traditional cushions, leather stitched Moroccan pouffes, rugs and lanterns perfect for guests to relax. Lots of these amazing props are available at The Dreys, a unique wedding venue that was perfect for our Moroccan influence styling, offering an ancient woodland and even a rather stylish, romantic log cabin for the wedded couple to spend the night in.

Gold, Rose Gold and Deep Red Plum…

Rich textures and luxurious fabrics were a feature of the dresses all made bespoke to suit their environment by Audrey Ashley Couture. Blush pink, gold and soft taupe displayed alternative colour options working beautifully in the woodland setting. I created two makeup looks using golds, rose golds and a deep red plum on our bride Katie’s green eyes to really enhance their colour. A richer gold and a deeper plum were added with a blood red lip when the incredible flower crown handmade by Wild Rose Hair was worn. Hair was kept loose and soft with detailed braiding and delicate flowers woven in and swept up for the flower crown.

A Wonderful Backdrop…

The natural beauty of the woodlands, ceremony area, various marquee options, meadow glamping for guests made the most wonderful back drop for this inspiration shoot all beautifully captured by Penny Young Photography and filmed by Half Moon Weddings.
