Christmas Kitsch Wedding Inspiration

Oh dear readers do we have an absolute treat for your eyes today. A festive shoot that is absolutely PERFECT to share on Christmas Eve and full of so much stylish joy that our inner child hearts have skipped a beat. The tinsel, the glitter, the colour, the lighting, the kitsch retro theme, the staging, the bridal and grooms attire – it is a shoot that keeps on giving and we are in LOVE with it. All of it!

Put together as part of a photography workshop for Killer Filler and styled to absolute perfection by Fleur De Lace, Kitsch Christmas is how I would imagine the perfect Christmas wedding day would be. With all the razzmatazz and theatre you would expect with Christmas, but executed in such a way that it is tasteful, stylish, exciting, beautiful, fun and, as mentioned above, a complete treat for the eyes. We can’t stop looking at it and the more we do, the more we notice the depth of detail within each and every setting – such as the paper fans lining the white ‘sleigh all day’ wall (look out for them – such a good idea), and the lightbulb aisle which is simply genius. We also ADORE the cool retro styling of the bride and groom – especially the tasseled dress and those gold ankle boots within the Bride’s first look. Then there is the balloon installation with streamer chandeliers, the mismatched ceremony chairs in blue, orange, pink and red, the INCREDIBLE flowers that line the aisle and so much more – honestly our ‘we love’ list is endless when it comes to this shoot. We feel so lucky that we are the ones who get to share it with you all today.

Kitsch Christmas…

I wanted to create a theatrical and retro christmas wedding, with all the kitsch Christmas memories I have from being a child. The coloured lights, paper garlands and tinsel!

I knew Alice from Fleur de Lace would be perfect for creating this for the workshop I run with Nicki Shea Photography – Killer Filler Workshop.

The starting point was always going to be a massive colourful backdrop of pink, red and gold. I suggested crepe paper but Alice came up with the idea of using plastic table cloths which worked so much better. She made it 3d so we could have the couple stood almost inside it and then continued it across the barn roof with massive pink, red and gold garlands. Pinyatay supplied gold star and silver lightening bolt piñatas that we hung around the backdrop and of course we smashed the massive gold star at the end.

Then came the pink vinyl aisle, with fairground strip lights from Vowed and Amazed running down each side, lighting up the floral installation by Meadows and Mulberry Weddings. I wanted a mix of blue and pink, fresh and dried flowers to go all the way down which looked incredible.

Purple door props supplied pink, red and a pop of aqua painted chairs for the ceremony area which pulled the whole thing together.

As ever we always have various ‘zones’ at our workshop so photographers and filmmakers have plenty to shoot, so nicki created a retro seating area, with iridescent back drops, neons, palms, a pink Christmas tree and sofa, and massive presents. There was even a retro TV photobooth by Vintage Camperbooths and handmade bauble cushion by Daydreamer Creative Studio.

We always big up the cake area because these are works of art in themselves and Bronya from the Daisy Cake Company absolutely nailed the brief of a kitsch pink heart cake with ‘be mine’ iced on top. She took it to the next level by making the vanilla sponge inside bright aqua. So cool.

To make this area next level, Tanya from Daydreamer Creative Studio also made a massive pink and red banner saying ‘shut up and kiss me,’ and Vowed and Amazed supplied 2 incredible neon plinths for the florals.

The table area was adorned with a huge balloon installation by Neon and Blush which hung down above it. Alice also put a pink toy train that ran down the table for cute Christmas vibes.

Sundown Paper created all the stationery and her brief was to go retro and colourful and she did not disappoint! They looked so cool on the table set up, with lightening bolts for the name places, and ruffles on the invites. She also made Christmassy posters for around the venue.

Neon and Blush also created a multicoloured balloon arch at the entrance of the barn which was decorated with rebel bunting and glitter bunting which set it off perfectly.

We had a snow machine outside for super cute Christmas shots and our usual smoke grenades from Enola Gaye who now sponsor or workshops.

We always value amazing, talented suppliers and try and work with trusted ones we’ve worked with before.

Heather from Sash and Veil always gets creative with her work for us, and this time she created the most beautiful cape veil which was extra long and embellished with tiny gold stars and a shorter blue veil for with the pink dress for the retro look.

Phiney at Poppy Perspective created a bespoke tassle mini dress which was absolutely incredible.

Love from Becky created a bespoke gold headdress and arm tie which were beautiful.

Gabby, from Hair and Make-up by Gabby created 3 looks for us on the day. A rosy cheeked outdoor look for the snowmachine shots, with a loose, low bun. A glamourous, golden look for the main bridal shots and a retro, twiggy look for the final pink dress / party outfit.

Indie, our bride model, wore vintage white cowboy boots with a pink puff sleeve dress from ASOS and gold boots with the tassel dress. The white faux fur coat was from ASOS and a bespoke red pill box hat was made by Madog Millinery and was the perfect winter wedding hat with vintage vibes.

Rudi our groom model rocked a black tux from ASOS.
