We have an absolute thing of beauty to share with all your eyes today. An inspiration bridal shoot that we honestly couldn’t love more.
Put together and captured by Anna Obermeier in collaboration with Wedding Fever, Human Beings features three stunning black, brown and white women – all equally beautiful and unique in their own way. Anna explains…
We wanted to show pictures that communicate that we are all HUMAN BEINGS and that there is a place for every woman as a bride, no matter which shade of the worlds beautiful colour palette she falls into.
Those of you who follow us on Instagram will know that inclusivity is something that we are hugely passionate about, especially when it comes to celebrating everything that is so wonderfully beautiful about black and brown skin. Ever since we started the incredible Nova Reid’s White Privilege and Anti-Racism course in June, we have been slowly and carefully unpeeling the layers of racism we have within and understanding why it is so important to come from the true genuine heart when talking about diversity. It is not a box to be ticked – it is something that should be handled with care and given the full attention and understanding it deserves.
To receive a shoot like this, that intentionally celebrates black and brown women in the same way white women are, is incredible to see. For too long the wedding industry has not done enough to increase representation of black and brown couples and in some cases this has sadly been intentional. If you want to understand more of what we are talking about then listen to episode 35 of Layla F. Saad’s Good Ancestor podcast. Layla is in conversation with the beautiful Nova who shares what it was like as a black woman planning her wedding in the UK, and subsequently campaigning for more inclusivity in a white washed wedding industry. This work led to her being invited to Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding as a representative for BBC News and Sky News, and ultimately to the launch of her online anti-racism course. It is a powerful listen and has had a huge impact on us today. As Nova would say, listening to this podcast has made us ‘want to be the change we want to see in the world.‘
Enjoy this gorgeous celebration of women lovely people and have a great weekend.
Human Beings…
Words by Anna Obermeier
The shooting was created to show all shades of brides. We wanted to show pictures that communicate that we are all HUMAN BEINGS and that there is a place for every woman as a bride, no matter which shade of the worlds beautiful colour palette she falls under. Unlike most of the styled shootings we wanted THREE brides – no groom – and I created the saying/hashtag „All my beautiful brides“ regarding the photos of these three wonderful ladies.
We had no symbols as a moodboard, as we thought that three brides with three different skin colours are a symbol theirselves. We used colours that remind us of mother earth: ochre, auburn, rusty red, sand and beige. Our florist fleur.etc created wonderful bouquets of dried flowers in these colours.
We used three very different bridal outfits to show that we are all the same and all very different at the same time. Nina wears a wonderful dress that emphasizes her beautiful body. Rania wears a jumpsuit that provides a loose but elegant touch. And Malaika choose a combination of a top with laces and a wonderful long skirt. The accessoires as the earrings or the turban resemble a bit of the african way of living.
This project is an inspiration for women – 100% from women.
