Morning lovely people. I hope you are all having a fab bank holiday weekend. We are camping in gorgeous Cornwall and having an absolute blast. The weather couldn’t be more perfect and we are off to a festival today so I am loving life at the moment. I don’t want to come back!

We have the perfect bohemian wedding to share with you all today. Captured beautifully by Freckled Photography, Hayden and Katie’s DIY barn wedding has all of the boho details that we love here at Festival Brides including a truly stunning lace wedding dress; mismatched bridesmaid dresses in shades of orange; an outdoor woodland ceremony setting dressed with macrame, rugs and beautiful florals; and a barn reception area filled with hanging plants in macrame and lots of personal touches. The best part about all of this is pretty much everything you see was DIY and handmade. Even the gorgeous florals (which consist of silk flowers and greenery from Hobby Lobby and Michaels – yep I was surprised too because they just look so so good) were put together by Hayden’s Aunt. This wonderful wedding is proof that, if you can get your creative juices flowing, you don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive decorations.

Hayden and Katie talk us through their gorgeous day and how it all started in Alabama!

Enjoy peeps and Happy Bank Holiday Monday!!

Candles, Rose Petals and One Knee…

Hayden proposed to me on June 26th, 2018. We were on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama on vacation with his family. They told me we were going to take some family pictures, so we got dressed up and walked down to the beach. He told me to close my eyes then walked me to a spot where he had left candles and rose petals and when I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee.

Plant Hangers, Candlesticks & Boho Rugs…

Our wedding was held in Kindred Barn in Mulberry, AR. My family has been really good friends with the owners of Kindred Barn (Joey and Stacy Marrone) for many years and we absolutely love their gorgeous venue so it just felt perfect that we were able to get married there.

We hung macrame plant hangers (most of which we made) from the rafters in Kindred. We thrifted brass candlesticks and colourful vases to use on long wooden tables that my Dad had custom made for us. We set up a seating area with a couch and chairs and layered several boho rugs, throw pillows and blankets and then hung chandeliers above the couch to add to the boho aesthetic.

The Marlowe Dress…

My dress was the Marlowe dress from the Wilderly Bride collection by Allure Bridals. I purchased it from Low’s in Brinkley, AR. I chose this dress because I thought it went perfect with our boho wedding theme and we (Mom, Mother-in-law, Bridal party, and I) thought that the pattern would show up great in pictures.

DIY Wedding Stationery…

We ordered our invitations and RSVP cards from Simply to Impress. I designed our wedding programs that listed the wedding party, order of ceremony and lyrics to the worship songs we sung through Canva.com and had them printed at Office Depot.

Boho-esque Silk Flowers & Greenery…

Hayden’s Aunt, Lori Hill, did all of the bouquets, boutineers, corsages, and arbor flowers. She used to own a floral shop but since it was no longer open and we did not have access to large coolers for real flowers, we opted to use various boho-esque silk flowers and greenery from Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Because they were silk, Lori was able to make all of the flower arrangements several days/weeks before the wedding so we were able to play around with different arrangements until they looked exactly how we wanted them.

DIY Macrame, Blankets & Quilts…

We got married in the outdoor ceremony area at Kindred. I made macrame bouquet wraps for mine and my bridesmaids bouquets. We decorated the arbor with a macrame backdrop that I made and hung two floral arrangements in the corners. We covered the “stage” area with a big boho area rug. Friends and family brought throw blankets and quilts to put on all of the benches for people to cover up with in case they were cold.

Rub ’em Tender…

Rub ‘Em Tender BBQ. We did it buffet style and served pulled pork, beef brisket, cheesy potato casserole, baked beans, potato salad and rolls. Drinks were lemonade, water, and sweet tea.

A Certain Style…

April of Freckled Fox Photography, did absolutely fantastic on our wedding pictures! Finding someone that could not only capture our special day and all of the details but also edit the images with a certain style was super important to me and April did this perfectly. I was able to fully trust her and not worry about how the pictures would turn out and just enjoy our wedding day.

Favourite Moment…

I absolutely loved doing a bridesmaids first look and a first look with my (at the time) soon-to-be husband. They were both such sweet moments and after we were all ready, we were able to take lots of pictures together and just have fun for the rest of the day. As my bridesmaids turned around to see me in my dress for the first time on my wedding day, their faces of excitement were so perfectly captured by April and I will forever be able to remember that exact moment of happiness and excitement. As I was walking up to do a first look with my groom, I was overwhelmed with emotion, knowing that he was about to become my husband and we were about to spend the rest of our lives together.

Any Advice?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! You can’t do it all on your own and there are so many people that are more than willing to lend a hand. Don’t sweat the small stuff! In the end, your wedding day is just one day so you should be more focused on the big picture which is being married to the one you love forever.

The Film…

Power Tribe Photo/Video. I thought Andrew did such a great job capturing our wedding on film and I’m so glad we are able to go back and rewatch our special day.
