Glitter & Disco Inspired Wedding Shoot in Pink

We are bringing the party to our festival pages today lovely people with this gorgeous disco, neon and glitter inspired wedding reception shoot by the lovely Denise of Rock Paper Cloud. Think pink and lilac ombré flower arrangements (which we LOVE), neon signs, personalised candles, retro stationery, disco balls galore, an iridescent pink cake, eco glitter and so much more. It is playful, vibrant and is packed full with retro decor ideas and fun inspiration for your bridal portraits. We are loving the photobooth images!

Being a lover of 70’s typography, glitter, sequins and the colour pink, Denise created this disco inspired styled shoot after seeing a neon sign saying, “well behaved women rarely make history.” From there her ideas spiraled into this sequin filled world and there was no going back! Her aim was to inspire couples, especially brides, to break the traditional boundaries of their wedding theme and embrace who they are and the things they love. She says…

I really want to inspire couples to break the boundaries with their wedding theme. We don’t need to be limited to mainstream wedding venues, colour palettes and traditional themes. I want couples to express themselves in venues they feel comfortable in, and treat the wedding party as a really great night out. After the restrictions we have been facing, I can imagine there will be a real celebratory sense to weddings with an emphasis on fun.

Wild pinks florals, flowy and freeform 70s typography, neon and endless glitter for a Disco inspired wedding party.

The heart of the shoot was always the stationery which consisted of retro 70s typography in pinks & reds. After the year we have had, I predict that people will feel the need for self-expression, fun and creativity to let off steam which is why I felt compelled to celebrate this era in my typography. The 1970s were filled with many social movements and cultural trends that influenced graphic design, fashion and interior which made people want to express themselves more freely.

Disco fonts were originally inspired by neon lights which drew me immediately to our stunning venue Tonight Josephine, with its iconic neon sign reading “Well behaved women rarely make history.” I envisioned pink & red wild flower arrangements, neon signs and an abundance of disco balls. I was inspired by the architecture of a disco ball and wanted to create images that could almost become pieces of art and felt. Gemma from Golden Hare Photography suggested we shoot through a crystal ball to create some refraction shots which carried through the theme perfectly.

We needed the shoot to have the energy & nostalgic vibes of a ‘70s disco so we created lightning bolt stencil place names to double up as wedding favours for guests to take home. I love to find unique ways to install table plans & props and the venue wasn’t short of options for this. We ceiling mounted the table plan using invisible wire to give a seamless finish rather than using a floor standing easel. I really encourage clients to explore how table plan and welcome signs are placed so that the focus is on the design.

For me, the whole look really was a case of “more is more” and I loved the abundance of accessories we used to style the tablescape including gorgeous eco conscious glitter from The Little Glitter Club and mini disco balls and pink plates from Boho and Bloom Prop Hire. To top it all off, Claire from Claire’s Sweet Temptations created a pink drip cake that sat on a perspex stand which of course showcased a feature disco ball! Leah from Boho and Bloom Prop Hire also created a stunning ombre pink tassel backdrop for the cake to be displayed.

When visiting the venue and seeing it’s pink mirrored semi-circle tables, I was instantly inspired to have a cascading floral install down the side of the table to act as a sweetheart setting and Julie of The Event Stylist executed this perfectly! Julie combined dried and fresh flowers into a bouquet which we doubled up as a back-of-chair decoration. It’s a great way to repurpose stunning arrangements to create picture perfect bridal moments! The gorgeous Dior inspired chairs by Event Furniture Hire London couldn’t have fit the venue and the theme more perfectly. It all felt like it was totally meant to be!

With such a big trend this year into bespoke candle shapes and colours, Hannah from Pepper Loves created personalised candles with the names of the bride and groom that could also be used as place names for more intimate weddings.

Fashion & Beauty…

Although I always wanted to create an alternative wedding party, I still wanted it to feel relatable which is why I opted for a more traditional dress. This gorgeous sparkly number by Willow Victoria from Victoria Lou Bridal portrayed the perfect balance of fun and glamour. The gown had sparkly lining and a soft tulle overlay. With its intricate cascading leaf design and hand beaded straps and waistband, it sparkled so perfectly under the neon lights. The dress was perfectly topped off by the insane, disco ball inspired headband and matching earrings by Victoria Louise Accessories.
Alyse from Alyse Baker Artistry created a sultry sparkly smokey eye on our bride with bronzed, Victoria Secret’esque glowy skin. The bride’s glossy, bouncy waves by Maxx Anderson finished the look perfectly.
