If you are looking for a festival wedding venue in East Sussex then dear readers your search is over!! Allow us to introduce you to the amazing Crockstead Fields – an eco-friendly outdoor wedding venue that has been completely built and inspired by the owners love and passion for music festivals and creating amazing weddings. Only a short drive from Lewes, and 40 minutes from Brighton’s Seafront, it comes with an all-inclusive package for everything you could possible need to create a perfect outdoor wedding including a licensed woodland ceremony area and glamping style accommodation.

As part of our Festival Brides Love series, we are talking to owners Rowan and Henry all about how Crockstead Fields came to be a wedding venue, the services they offer couples and their dedication to becoming a zero-waste, carbon neutral festival wedding site – something that we have huge admiration for…

Through the development of our own vegetable patches on site and a focus on sourcing locally, we can effectively reduce our carbon footprint whilst providing the best quality in-season produce for our guests.

We have multiple recycling points throughout site and endeavour to minimise waste throughout every element of the planning and delivery of our events.

All drinks from our bars are served in reusable plastic cups and we do not allow disposable plastics on site.

In 2021 we planted 2000 oak trees with a commitment to planting another 1500 trees over the next few years. All our wedding couples at Crockstead Fields are welcome to plant a tree in recognition of their special day with us – we hope to have a mini-forest of blooming wedding memories within a couple of years.

Rowan, Crockstead Fields

Love, love LOVE. Rowan and Henry share with us more details on their awesome venue.

Tell us a little bit about yourselves?

Hello! I’m Rowan and I’m one half of the team here at Crockstead Fields – my very good friend Henry forms the other half of the team and together we have a lot of fun organising and hosting fully-licensed, eco-friendly, weekend-long, Festival Weddings in the heart of Sussex!

Henry and I met a couple of years ago and instantly bonded over a shared love of music and music festivals. We’d both attended and performed at countless festivals across the UK ourselves over the years, either in bands or behind the decks!

Henry owns Shibui Tents and had already been working in the wedding industry for several years, providing marquees and catering to very happy couples across The South and I was a founding member of The Wedding Festival Company which I formed back in 2014.

It’s fair to say after a few too many glasses of wine one evening we hatched a plan to combine our skills and shared passions and develop a plot of land into an eco-conscious wedding festival site – and so Crockstead Fields was born!

If you had the chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be and why?

I have always wanted to attend Burning Man! The costumes, the inclusivity, the community vibes, the self-reliance and of course their ethos of ‘leaving no trace’ which ties in so well to our eco-venue vision here at Crockstead Fields!

I’m not 100% sure how I’d handle the searing heat of the Black Rock Desert for a week, but I’d sure love to give it a go!

Tell us a bit about Crockstead Fields and how it came to be a wedding venue?

Henry has known the Landowner, James for years and many moons back the two of them put on a music festival at the site. After a few years lugging marquees around the South Coast Henry twisted James’ arm to let him use the field again.

The following year we started planting trees, patching up areas of grass and building up the foundations of the site. A good few years and some ambitious build projects later, here we are.

What sort of space is available to hire for a wedding and do you have any facilities on site such as toilets, power and water?

All Festival Wedding bookings at Crockstead Fields include private hire of both the event field and camping field with plenty of on-site parking for guests a few minutes walk down the track. We can comfortably host 150 seated guests in our Petal Pole Marquee, and we allow for extra evening guests if required.

In the event field you will find our ceremony area complete with hand-built pagoda and hay bale seating for guests. Hidden away in the trees is our tree-top bar and chillout space.

The camping field has ample space for all to camp for free (if pitching up their own tents) and we can provide luxury bell tent options via our glamping partners if required. Included within the package are Two Bohemian Yurts, each inclusive of hot showers and private toilet.

All amenities are provided as part of our Wedding Festival package, including generator power, running water in both the event, and camping field, compost toilets in the camping field and luxury loos in the main event field.

We can of course supply hot showers via one of our trusted suppliers should our couples wish them for their guests. We plan to build some for 2022… but we’ll have to see how that goes!

Can couples legally get married at your venue?

They certainly can! Our hand-built pagoda is licensed for marriage ceremonies, and we work closely with the local registry office to ensure all legal ceremonies run smoothly on the day. We are also passionate about providing a space for all – and are more than happy to accommodate spiritual blessings or celebrant services.

Our ceremony area is set within a natural canopy of oak trees providing a beautifully private, shaded area for marriage services. The pagoda sits opposite the main marquee, with stunning views across the festival site and hay bale seating is provided for all guests.

The addition of natural wildflowers, fauna, and our hand-built wedding arch compliment the look of our natural surroundings and couples may add or remove any décor elements they would like to ensure it fits in with the vision for their day.

What makes your venue that extra bit special?

Crockstead Fields was awarded the Locasse grant in recognition of our commitment to becoming a zero-waste, carbon neutral Festival Site.

All our wedding bookings are Fri-Sun too which means our couples and their guests can enjoy the site for 2 nights creating a real festival experience! We provide garden games, crazy golf, and plenty of fancy-dress attire for the photo booth – we just want all our guests to create something unique with their stay. A totally carefree relaxed festival vibe!

Do you offer any additional services such as catering or a marquee?

Our stunning Petal Pole marquee is included in our festival wedding package, which can comfortably seat 150 guests and we do offer festival catering via our talented team of in-house chefs who are always happy to provide sample menus and tailor dishes to specifically suit a couple’s requirements and budget. We can also provide experienced service staff should they be required for a more traditional wedding breakfast service.

We provide a fully-stocked and staffed bar at all events and are committed to offering drinks at a reasonable price throughout the weekend – absolutely no ludicrously priced wedding drinks at Crockstead Fields – it is something that all of our wedding guests have commented on, and it really does help everyone relax and enjoy their stay!

It is important to also note that we do allow couples to provide their own catering if they prefer with no additional charges for doing so! We do offer a BYOB service for a corkage fee.

Do you offer any accommodation at your venue such as glamping or camping?

All guests at Crockstead Fields are welcome to pitch up their own tents and camp free of charge throughout the weekend. For those that prefer a more luxury stay under the stars, we can provide glamping via one of our trusted partners.

All bookings for Festival Wedding are inclusive of our 2 Bohemian Yurts. One of which we reserve for the honeymoon couple and the other is a couple of minute walk down the path meaning it is totally private and quiet at night.

If our readers were to book Crockstead Fields as the venue for their wedding, what sort of service can they expect?

At Crockstead Fields, our couples can expect attentive service from the day they book to the end of their Wedding Festival weekend! We provide advice and assistance in all aspects of organising a festival wedding and we have a large network of trusted suppliers to ensure any couples wishes can be accommodated.

We are always happy to invite our couples down for a few site visits, should they wish to run things through in person before their stay and we provide full wedding coordination on the big day itself.

We’re a friendly bunch here and have been very lucky to have our wedding couples leaving as pals with plans to meet up for a pint (or 3) down the line.

“Thank you so very much for such a fantastic wedding, it really was the best day! Everything came together seamlessly. Rowan, Henry and team did an amazing job making sure everything ran smoothly and all of our guests really enjoyed themselves, a lot of our them have said it’s the best wedding they’ve ever been to!

I think a fair few of our guests were a bit dubious about an outdoor wedding in a field but the feedback has been they were more than impressed! Together, we pulled off a true mini festival wedding in style and we can’t recommend them enough”.

How do your couples know if Crockstead Fields is the right venue for their wedding?

If you are looking to wow your guests with a weekend-long, eco-conscious, Festival Wedding experience they will never forget, then Crockstead Fields is the ideal venue for you!

Our relaxed approach to wedding planning allows our couples to focus on the more enjoyable aspects of planning their wedding, while we take care of the rest!

Our Wedding Festival package is all-inclusive, and our eco-commitment is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with the local registrar’s office to ensure our legal ceremonies run smoothly on the day and guests get to kick back and enjoy the beauty of the Sussex countryside for an entire weekend throughout each event!

What’s your best piece of advice for couples who’re trying to choose their wedding venue?

Every couple’s vision for their big day is personal to them and it is important to ensure the venue you choose reflects your tastes and ultimately will provide the setting to create the vibe you want for your wedding.

My biggest piece of advice is to ask as many questions as you can (no matter how silly they seem!) and to really get a feel for the venue owners when visiting potential locations. We have been very lucky at Crockstead Fields and now call all our previous couples’ good friends – it is important to build those relationships and feel confident that your wedding day is in the hands of people you trust, who share your vision!

What are some of your favourite memories from previous weddings/couples you have worked with?

Oh, so many to mention! We’ve had some amazing build memories, sharing BBQs with the crew, our couples, and their guests. Plenty of Silent Disco highlights, our team love to join the disco at the end of the evening and dance away into the early hours!

We’ve also had some amazingly chilled Sundays with the remaining guests, playing garden games and sharing memories from the night before! It’s so lovely to spend time with happy people after the event and hear all about their experiences whilst with us!
