Good morning everyone, and what a delightful Monday morning it is! OK, so we may not have sun to glow about and the sky may look dull from your office window but hey, we are always beaming here at Festival Brides HQ on a Monday morning, as it means one thing….time for another romantic dose of real festival wedding inspiration!
Today we take you across the globe to the colourful tropics of Rio De Janeiro, to share the super cool, beachside-city wedding of French couple Kacey and Jonathan. This dreamy international mixing pot of themes played out carnival style in a bright, fun, party-style celebration poolside in a tropical jungle villa garden. Surrounded by lush greenery, the head-over-heels couple tied the knot amidst Rio’s hill tops in an unconventional, Brazilian style ceremony followed by a blend of Caipirinha cocktails, traditional foods and a dip in the pool with stunning views overlooking the city.
I didn’t stress once, as we didn’t want a conventional or formal wedding. What we really wanted was a big reunion of family and friends from all over the world…and a big party!
Photographer Becca from Les Récits de Becca travelled half way across the world to photograph this wedding. We totally love her aura and style! With the help of Leticia Fulop from Mais Art Eventos and all the other wonderful suppliers that were involved, Kacey and Jonathan pulled off an incredible Brazilian bonanza and united in their dream wedding destination.
Here’s Kacey to fill in all the details….
Beach Proposal Whilst Riding on Horseback
My boyfriend and I met in South America while we were working there few years ago. He proposed to me whilst on holiday in Uruguay. One day Jonathan invited me to go horseback riding on the beach to watch the sunset. I remember thinking ‘why is he taking a bag as it’s not necessary?’. After around an hour riding he stopped, and after reading me a very touching poem, he asked me to marry him as the sun rose up over the beach.
Tropical Outdoor Wedding, Romantic ‘First Look’ and All-Night Party
We got the chance to get married in a tropical country where the weather is really nice, so for this reason we decided to spend the whole day outside! The only part of the wedding that was inside was the morning preparation inside the villa. After we were ready, we didn’t go back inside the house until the very end of the night. We had a ‘first look’ which was outside on a hidden terrace – it was beautiful and private.
Ceremony in Rio De Janeiro’s Hill Tops with Amazing City View
The wedding took place in a very nice villa amidst Rio de Janeiro’s hilly tops. It was our wedding planner who found the venue. We fell in love with the place straight away. The ceremony took place in the back of the villa’s garden surrounded by tropical jungle with the most incredible view of the city. For this reason, we didn’t need a lot of decoration as the venue itself was perfect. We just put some a few flowers in select places to brighten up certain areas. Many people wrote a few words about us for this special occasion which was so nice.
Caipirinha Cocktails and Samba Party Atmosphere
The ceremony was followed by a blend of caipirinha cocktails and a melodic bossa nova live set filled the rhythm for the dance floor. From sunset until the end of the night, the dancing didn’t stop!
Traditional Brazilian Buffet and Wedding Day Swim
We decided to not have a seated diner and have an informal buffet instead. This was made up of traditional Brazilian dishes and it was so delicious. We had professional samba dancers do a show and give our guests a few samba tips. And it was inevitable that we would all go for a wedding day swim with the beautiful swimming pool right beside the dance floor!
Creative French Wedding Photographer
We had the very best wedding photographer! Becca is so talented with such a creative eye. She is very professional but so much fun at the same time – everybody loved her. Thanks so much for coming to Brazil with us Becca!
Arabian Nights, Personalised Havaianas and Carnival Masks
There was a mix of different ideas and theme inspirations in our wedding. We wanted a lot of flowers and natural rustic elements, but we wanted to create an Arabic atmosphere with traditional Brazilian elements. We handed out carnival masks to everyone during the cocktail hour and everyone was also given a pair of Havaianas that were personalised with our initials and date of our wedding. We thought these would be a wonderful souvenir that our guests could take home.
I loved and enjoyed every minute of the day! I’ve never had so much fun at a wedding. Finishing the party in the swimming pool with my husband and friends is one of my most favourite moments of the day.
My advice would be to not to stress too much, because few things won’t always exactly turn out how you thought they would anyway. The most important thing is that everybody spend a wonderful time together! Also get a wedding planner….getting married in Brazil was a dream that couldn’t have been possible without the best planner. Leticia helped us to organise our wedding in Brazil all the way from France which was quite a challenge. Leticia was so very patient and flexible with us and we thank her so much for her help!
