Hello gorgeous ones and welcome to another beautiful real wedding here on Festival Brides. We love an elopement wedding; so intimate, so romantic and so free of tradition….and this one is by no means an exception. Joy and Phuoc married in a hazy desert elopement ceremony under the Joshua Tree at a stunning Airbnb venue in California. After planning their wedding in just 4 months with the help of planning and design experts Brannan Events & Design, the couple took inspiration from a similar elopement they had seen online….
Our wedding design was inspired by a celestial Malibu elopement we had seen online. I wanted a colour palette inspired by the reflective and optical properties of crystals and brought healing crystals of my own that I had collated to include with the design.
This wedding bursts with heady romance and it’s clear to see from Heirlume Photography’s intimate and candid shots that this couple have more than a few years under their belt in the relationship stakes. The pair were together for 12 years before saying ‘I Do’ and this is beautifully evident in this photography collection. They look so at ease, so happy and so free!
Joy chose a whimsical and overflowing bouquet from Tumbleweed Floral Truck and designed her theme with amethyst, opal gemstones and a gorgeously styled table for two filled with towering midnight candles, pretty florals and stunning stationary. This wedding could very easily be mistaken for a styled shoot, it really is that perfect!
Here’s Joy to tell you more about her romantic desert escape wedding to handsome Phuoc….
High School Sweethearts and Wedding Planned in Just 4 Months
We were high school sweethearts and got engaged on our 9th dating anniversary. We decided to focus on buying our first home before planning our wedding. We closed on our house exactly one year later. With a limited budget, we agreed that what we really wanted was to get away just the two of us and be focused on each other. We didn’t want to lose out on the glamour and some of the structure of a traditional wedding, and this is when we found out about “Mico Weddings”. We found and hired Elise with Brannan Events & Design who made wedding planning go smoother than I could have ever imagined, and after 2yrs of being engaged, she planned our wedding in just 4 months.
Married in California in a Private Ceremony under the Joshua Tree
We were looking for a place that offered privacy, a view, and stargazing and the Wm. Wiley House (booked via Airbnb)ticked all the boxes. We knew that it had to have two bedrooms for us to get ready in without seeing each other, and a full kitchen to have a private chef for dinner. Our host was so incredibly welcoming and allowed the freedom to be creative with the wedding design.
Desert Vibes, Burning Sage and Tipi Ceremony Backdrop
When we started planning, we knew one thing was for sure….we were taking a road trip to Coachella for our honeymoon. We wanted to stick with desert vibes and fell in love when we found our venue in Joshua Tree. It fit perfectly with the aesthetic we were going for. We had traditional Lutheran wedding vows and a sage burning ceremony ritual with a deconstructed, tipi ceremony backdrop.
We loved including crystals throughout the space and drew in a bit more moodiness with our violet table-scape. We also loved including so fun pops with our fun and funky custom invitation suite.
Lace Dress, Rose Block Heels and Opal Gemstones
I got my dress from Bella Bridal Boutique. I fell in love with its form, fitting, shape and long train. It had an illusion neckline and sequins over the entire dress that created just a little sparkle, and the lace detail looked like feathers.
I wore rose velvet block heels with ribbon ankle wrap from Nordstrom. I also wore a hairpiece, necklace, bracelet and earrings all with white opal gemstones. Phuoc wore an Express Suit, Aldo shoes, and cufflinks engraved with JP initials.
Whimsical Flowers, Amethyst Stationary and Tequila!
Our florist was Tumbleweed Floral Truck – whimsical and textural were the biggest priorities and Tumbleweed Floral Truck totally nailed our vision! Bowerbird Atelier did our stationary with a beautiful amethyst watercolour design.
Charlie at Joshua Tree Wedding Company was our dedicated chef. Our drink for the night was a tequila spritzer that was incredible. We started with a large charcuterie board, followed by a goat cheese and walnut salad and our main course was chimichurri skirt steak and potatoes.
Candid Shots and Calming Energy from Photographer
Our photographer was Heirlume Photography! Heirlume was the photographer for the Malibu elopement that inspired our theme. We loved their moody candid’s, and we were ecstatic that they were available to photograph our wedding on such short notice. Loretta had such a positive calming energy, we had so much fun shooting with her and our pictures exceeded our expectations.
Our first dance was to Beyoncé’s 1+1. We were going to see Beyoncé at Coachella for our honeymoon and wanted our first dance to be to one of her songs; this song came out at an important time in our lives, when we were pregnant with our son.
It was the most amazing feeling to be pronounced husband and wife to my partner of 12 years. In that moment I felt complete. My second favourite part of the day was when Mojave Massage come to our Airbnb the morning of our wedding, for our couple’s massage outside overlooking the mountains. It was the best way to relax and ease nerves before the big day.
