If January is giving you the blues, sigh no more, as we take you on a whimsical, bohemian and just down right beautiful journey through the wedding of Californian couple Krissi and Wylie. This adorable pair threw an unforgettable celebration in the redwoods and coastal hills of California. These two beauties are free spirited, imaginative and super creative; Krissie once worked at Pinterest (I know, cool huh!), and Wylie is the creator and CEO of Rumpl, a personalised blanket company. Both are avid DIY-ers and put so much energy, personality and thought every detail of their wedding.

We love being in the woods and we fell head-over-heels for the Island Farm upon seeing it. The redwood grove is absolutely magical.

Krissie handmade dream catchers, created a visual time-line and transformed their pop-up camper, ‘Ruby’, into a hip and floral wedding photo booth. They ended the night in top of the hills in glamping tents, and danced the night away under the stars.

Rustic Barn, Whimsical Grove and Glamping in the Hills

We wanted our wedding to be an outdoor adventure. Guests gathered at a rustic barn for the ceremony, hiked down to a whimsical redwood grove for the reception, and ended the evening glamping in the coastal hills of California.

Simple and Beautiful Woodland Barn Ceremony

We had our procession to ‘Reel 7 Break 1’ by Pretty Lights and walked out to ‘This Girl’ by The Kungs surrounded by friends and family.

Handmade Dream catchers, Crystals, Florals and Boho Spirit

I handmade dream catchers and hung them in the trees to create an enchanting vibe. Our home is filled with crystals and plants, and we wanted to bring our boho spirit to the woods. Every table was named after a crystal, and we incorporated each table’s crystal throughout the decor and place settings. The centerpieces were comprised of funky greenery. All in all, the tables were stunning – the blankets, crystals and unconventional florals authentically represented us.

DIY Reception, Handmade Details and Rumpl Blankets

Wylie designed personalized Rumpl blankets to keep guests warm and cozy as the sun disappeared amongst the treetops. I actually worked at Pinterest, and I’m an avid DIY-er. There were lots of handmade details that showcased our personalities.

Party, Snack Bar and Tattoo Station in the Glamping Tent

After the reception, we moved up to the glamping tents and put on our party pants. I handmade all of the after party decor, including an epic snack bar, flash tattoo station, and a fabric-hung backdrop for a pop of colour and flare. We even hand-dyed Wylie’s indigo party suit!

Creative Photograph Display, Polaroids and Cocktails

We love seeing childhood pictures at weddings, however a slideshow didn’t really align with our outdoor adventure wedding. Instead, I created a ‘visual timeline’ by printing and framing 75+ photos. The timeline started with early childhood pics and chronologically transitioned to our life together. We even included space for guests to add polaroids during cocktail hour. It was one of my favorite wedding projects!

Ruby the VW Camper Photo Booth

We’re happiest when camping in our van, named Ruby. Our close friend at Bloom Generation hung flowers from Ruby’s pop-top and created a gorgeous photo booth for the reception. Ruby’s a big part of our life, so it was really special to include her in our wedding day!

Favourite Moment

Our ceremony, and more specifically, our vows. We each wrote our own heartfelt vows, expressing our love and commitment to each other, and this was an extraordinary experience. It was so very special to share this moment with our closest family and friends.

First Dance

Speeches are hands-down our most favourite part of all weddings, so we decided to skip the first dance, and in its place, Wylie gave a fantastic speech!

Any Advice?

For those planning a wedding in the woods, remember, there’s very little sunlight! Temperatures tend to drop quickly and it gets chilly before sunset. We’d recommend planning accordingly to ensure guests stay warm. We had one heat lamp per table and a blanket for each guest—we heard lots of thanks and appreciation for the extra-cozy measures.
