Three things to note about today’s inspiration wedding shoot…

One. Black on white looks so god damn sexy, sophisticated, cool and alternative. The perfect colour theme for a city wedding or any wedding for that matter. It just looks so good.

Two. The cake by Rock n Roll Baker is all things epic and completely backs up everything I say in point 1!

Three. The bespoke hand painted bridal jackets by Faye of Wild Calligraphy are awesome, especially the one featured at the end. Faye if you are reading this – I have space in my wardrobe for a jacket just like this….. #justsaying

Put together by Wild Calligraphy with the intention of bringing alternative wedding inspiration and ideas to couples who like to do things differently and think outside of the box, today’s elopement shoot explores monochrome as a wedding theme as well as the minimalist and interior home trends that, according to Pinterest, are tipped to be big on the wedding scene for 2020.

Faye talks us through the shoot, the real couple it features, her alternative styling ideas for the bride and groom and all of the suppliers involved.

Enjoy lovely peeps…

Alternative Minimalist Monochrome…

I’ve wanted to shoot a Monochrome shoot for a while. I love the delicious contrast of black on white and with the rise of Minimalist weddings, it was perfect timing! The colour scheme and theme runs through all the dreamy details, from the invitations by Becky at RnR Weddings and Events to THAT CAKE by Sonia at Rock n Roll Baker. I also wanted to pay homage to all the lovers choosing to elope and get married with a handful of their favourite people. I loved the idea of a city elopement, with a really fancy tasting menu. When it came to choosing a photographer, it had to be Caroline, who expertly captures simple moments in such a gorgeous way. I love the candids of Soph and Sam getting ready, and how she’s captured all the dreamy details.

The stars of the shoot are real couple Sophie and Sam who are my dear friends. Sophie is such a cool girl and her tattoos are gorgeous! So I wanted a look that would show them off. E and W couture provided the most stunning silk dress, with slits down the side which complemented them so well. Finished off with a hand painted jacket by me, Wild Calligraphy. Sophie’s really into delicate line drawings (as you’ll see from her insane tatts) and chose the German word “genau” meaning “exactly”. I loved doing an alternative take on painted jackets and designing something truly unique and special to the bride. You’ll also see some snaps of the “forget me not” jacket, another alternative design for creative brides, wanting something truly unique to commemorate their wedding day and wedding flowers.

Florals are my first love and always so important when wedding planning. Having a good florist helps elevate the look of the wedding and bring everything together. I love love love the minimalist roses bouquet by Charlotte at Frond & Bloom. I think this look is gonna be huge in 2020.

The hair and make up was very cat walk – again to provide alternative inspo for unique brides, wanting to do something truly stand out on their wedding day. I love that more couples are channelling their inner spirit animals and picking and choosing which traditions to follow. Alex from Arena Hair slicked back Soph’s gorgeous hair, and both she and the amazingly talented Ruby from Ruby J Beauty added pearls to their wizardry for extra pizzazz.

The tablescape was goals central and a real collaboration between stylist, stationer and florist. I love all the layers to the tablescape which complement each other rather than being OTT. I also love that Sian was able to match the table decor to the amazing features within the private home. The tablescape was finished off with the cutest bud vases by Charlotte of Frond & Bloom. According to Pinterest’s 2020 wedding trends, homeware is set to be a huge wedding trendsetter this year and I’m all about that. Who doesn’t love swooning over Interior Instas. Plus… for DIY couples it’s a great excuse to buy lots of fancy new bits for the home.
