Oh hello gorgeous ones and welcome to another week of beaut festival-style inspiration to get you in the mood for lurve. You might very well be nursing a sore head this morning after our extended bank hol weekend….you might even be waking up surrounded by hens and stags after a weekend of pre-wedding fun and frolics? Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, it’s time to sit back and relax whilst we share our first instalment of real wedding love with you. Fairy tale bride Jessyka and uber cool groom Lewis were married at Camp Katur, a stunning outdoor woodland venue set in the heart of the Yorkshire. Captured by the brilliant Patrick from M&G Photographic, this wedding features a vibrant and magical Harry Potter inspired ceremony with rainbow drape backdrop, colourful roses and beach windmills followed by a giant wooden-beamed ceiling Grand Pavilion style tipi reception. The pair used Pinterest and Insta to conjure up their theme and Jessyka’s lifetime dream of a fairy-tale wedding certainly set the inspiration for the day…
We’re both young at heart and I have always been a bit of a fairy head and a dreamer. I believe in fairy tales and magic and have always loved being different and unique. I found some ideas on Pinterest and Instagram then collaborate ideas and images to create something that was exactly perfect and unique for us.
With a bespoke ceremony by the lovely celebrant Jan Shillito of Celebration Ceremonies & Weddings, the couple worked hard to create a celebration that was super special and totally unique to them, making props and using DIY décor throughout the ceremony and reception areas.
All of the creative details were 100% DIY, and we didn’t pay for any of the decorations or designs they were all created by us and our entourage.
Sunflowers, rainbow roses, converse trainers and a gown only fit for a princess, this wedding is what all make-believe, festival fun style weddings should be like; love, joy and laughter all round!
Here’s bride Jessyka to tell you all about her magical and memorable wedding day….
Harry Potter World Engagement
Lewis proposed on 28th December 2014. We had been down south with my family for Christmas and on our last day had travelled in to London and had a day exploring, finishing by visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford. We’re both massive Harry Potter fans! We got to the studio tour in our matching Christmas jumpers and began exploring. Lewis ran off with his phone to ask a member of staff to please take a picture because he was about to propose. We stood on the spot smiling for the picture and Lewis began to shake. He stepped back and dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. The whole thing was magical and perfect.
Woodland Venue with Glamping and Caravans
We were married at Camp Katur in Bedale, North Yorkshire. We chose to have our ceremony in the Woodland Ceremony Area and then the reception and celebrations in the Grand Pavilion in the Glamping Meadow. From the off we knew we wanted laid back and informal. We had our hearts set on getting married in the woods and we knew that wherever we chose people would have to travel so we wanted to make the whole thing as easy as possible for our guests. The ceremony area is stunning and the first time we walked in to those woods we knew we wanted to get married there.
We used all of the glamping accommodation available on site. I stayed there the night before with all of my bridesmaids. Because we had so many guests we also hired extra pop-up bell tents from Camp Katur and some people brought their own tents and caravans.
We hired the beautiful Grand Pavilion from LPM Bohemia. It really was a magnificent centrepiece to the whole event. I’d fallen in love with the stunning and unique wooden ceiling
Cinderella Dress, Rainbow Sparkle Trainers and a Pair of Nikes!
I knew I wanted my dress to sparkle and come alive in the outdoor sunshine and wanted a train that trailed along the woodland ground, gathering leaves and twigs and pinecones as I walked about. My amazing dress was ‘Cinderella’ from the Disney Collection by Alfred Angelo. It was slightly adapted as the buttons on the back of the dress were taken from the ‘Elsa’ dress. The dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses were from Georgian House Bridal in Doncaster. Georgian House were amazing and went above and beyond to make everything perfect. I had three pairs of shoes on my wedding day! If a girl can’t have 3 pairs of shoes for her wedding day then when can she? My main pair were Nike Air Force 1 Lunars with a hidden wedge. The second pair were the Rainbow Sparkle trainers from UGG! The third pair were sparkly, flashing and magical! I intended just to wear them just for a few pictures but in all reality I was so comfortable in the Nikes I ended up wearing them all day long and neither of the other two pairs got a look in!
Hair and Make Up by Beautiful Friends!
My hair was done by one of my bridesmaids, Charlotte. She’s always designated hair braider whenever we all go away! She’s not a hairdresser, but I trusted her 100% and I think she did an amazing job.
We all had our make up done by my wonderful friends Carly and Nicky at Flawless make up. They travelled all the way from home at the crack of dawn to come and beautify us all. They did such a good job and we all felt amazing!
‘Casual Look’ High Street Groom and Groomsmen
The Groom and Groomsmen suits were from Next and their shirts were from the Tesco sale rail! Lewis knew that he wanted to be casual and comfortable for the day and he wanted the suit sleeves rolled up to complete a casual look.
The stunning bridesmaids dresses were Alfred Angelo like mine (although not from the Disney collection). We also got them from Georgian House Bridal, and it really helped to create a lovely experience being able to go for fittings all together in the same place!
Personal Ceremony with Stunning Rainbow Ribbon Decor
Our wonderful ceremony was created and presented by Jan Shillito at Celebration Ceremonies & Weddings. We had readings from Pocahontas and Sex and the City and our Mums wrote a spell that created a love potion that we drank from the cutest little glass bottles. As we signed the certificate Harry Potter was played and as the whole spectacle finished we walked back up the aisle as Mr and Mrs Jackson, Trio Vivo played their rendition of ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ as everyone waved their rainbow ribbon wands in the air. It was magical, it was emotional and it was personal to us.
We decorated the Woodland Ceremony area ourselves with a simple but striking rainbow ribbon backdrop. We added some little grey bells from Ikea throughout the backdrop that tinkled in the breeze. The barrel at the ‘alter’ was borrowed from the bar that Lewis and I first met at and the ends of the seating benches were little white pots filled with sand topped with glitter.
Giant Light-Up Centrepieces, DIY Touches and Harry Potter Inspired Sweet Table
With the Grand Pavilion being so spectacular on its own we didn’t really add too much. The ribbons were used again within the reception area on the backs of the chairs. Grey paper napkins were tied up with ribbons and the centrepieces were a real family effort and handmade/DIY by myself and my parents. ‘The Jacksons’ light up sign was provided by Coco Luminaire and added a bold light within the Grand Pavilion.
As well as the tables and formal seating we had a chill out seating area that was a little more comfortable. There we had grey blankets tied up with the coloured ribbons and on the opposite side we had a photo booth selfie mirror and blackjack and roulette tables. We also had a chocolate fountain, a DIY sweet table with Harry Potter themed sweets!
Afternoon Tea and Street Food
The catering company we used was in-house called Muse Catering at Camp Katur. The food was beautiful. During the day we had a delicious Afternoon Tea presented to the tables and then in the evening we had two deli-type counters; one with Build a Burger and Build a Burrito and gorgeous big chunky chips on the side. It was like a proper street food stall and a total contrast to the afternoon tea we had during the day. It was fabulous.
Memories Caught On Camera
I don’t think there are the words to describe how wonderful our wedding photography team were. We picked M&G Photographic to share our day with us and we are so so thankful that we did. We loved their style from the beginning. They captured emotion, beauty, love, fun, colour and irreplaceable memories. They provided us with pictures that now help us to tell the story of our wonderful day in the most perfect way.
Our wedding video is immense. It is hands down the BEST wedding video I have ever seen – I don’t think there is a person that’s watched it and not cried!
Our first dance was to ‘The Heart Never Lies’ by McFly. We’re both fans of McFly (me maybe a little bit more than Lewis) but the lyrics to the song are like a vow on their own. We both love it and has always been one of ‘our songs’ from the beginning.
How do you pick just one? Probably that moment we both saw each other for the first time walking down the aisle. All the love and emotion surrounded by everyone we know and love. The entire ceremony was just perfect.
Don’t get too caught up in the planning and prepare yourself for things that may not go exactly to plan.
I loved the planning of the wedding. It was hands down the most exciting and best thing I’ve ever done. I loved connecting all the details and getting everything to link and coordinate. I loved making it the beautiful and unique celebration that it was and I would do it all over again including all of the highs and lows!
