Now I know most of your minds will be on Christmas shopping, eggnog lattes, mince pies and the fact that it’s getting cold. Really cold! But before you completely switch off for Christmas, I want to transport you back to a the height of summer on one of the hottest days of the year. It was on this day that an impromptu wedding shoot in Kent took place. A shoot that channeled a desert vibe but in a beautiful meadow!
Put together by Kate of Hero Hairstylist and featuring Jodi Hanagan, Bohotanical, Story of My Dress, Helena Fortley, Emma Lily Curran, Ever After Wedding Cakes and Made by Rae Designs, this shoot was all about taking advantage of the amazing weather to create something beautiful and inspirational. The styling of both the decor and bride was kept simple with a laid back boho vibe that just looked so pretty in the field setting. We love the pops of colour found in the flowers and the bride’s rouge lips. We also love the gorgeous dresses which looked so beautiful when captured in the wheat fields.
Gwenda of Bohotanical talks us through the shoot and how it all came together….
High Summer Boho Dreaming…..
This impromtu shoot fell on one of the hottest days of High Summer. To make the most of the unusual climate, Kate of Hero Hairstylist speedily pulled together a fantastic team of vendors and asked me to join in with my flowers and styling props. I channeled a desert vibe, making the most of proteas, bush greens and grasses, as well as super-seasonal, colourful gladioli and snapdragons. The chilled-out, low table styling included some golden touches – and where would a desert look be without a focal (resin) cow skull?! I also integrated some place names and a menu card sent by Rachel, who designs using beautifully-textured, recycled cardstock. Sometimes, less is more, as the elegant cake design by Millie testifies to that, with its clean icing, and skillfully-crafted sugarpaste rose and ivy garland.
The spectacular dresses were all bohemian dreams come true – flowing beautifully, with just the right amount of luxe! Kate wanted to extend the relaxed feel through the hairstyling, leaving it mainly in its natural state, and accentuating the length with the use of bubble ponytails and infinity braids. The model’s hair is naturally very straight and the objective was an undone, organic look, so the main product used throughout was IGK’s texturising spray to give a messed-up, matt finish. The use of multiple types of braids throughout the length enhanced the overall bohemian feel. This was then accentuated perfectly with Eden B. Studio’s hair accessories, which are designed to reflect natural elements. Emma added some extra colour in her handling of the flawless make up for each look, two of which featured a striking lip colour.
The whole shoot was captured beautifully by Jodi, whose style perfectly allowed all the colours to shine through – bring on the bold colours predicted for 2019!
