Are you still on the search for your wedding venue? Are you hoping for an outdoor space with a stunning meadow, woodland, lake and glamping? Somewhere that is breathtaking but practical? Well if you are, you may have just hit the jackpot. Horsley Hale Farm in Ely, Cambridgeshire consists of six acres of the most beautiful gardens, woodland and paddocks all set around an idyllic fishing lake. You only have to take a look at the picture above to see just how gorgeous this venue is. There is glamping and camping available plus electricity and water. The owners also allow open fires as well which is a huge bonus for me – a festival wedding isn’t complete without a fire pit somewhere!
I have completely fallen in love with this venue and you are about to see why. It truly is stunning and definitely one that I would be viewing if I was planning an outdoor wedding.
We asked the owners, Stuart and Steph, a few questions about their farm, how it became a wedding venue and what is available if you were to book with them for your big day….
If you had the chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be and why?
I’m a heavy metal fan so it would have to be Hellfest in France. The big rock festivals in the UK have in recent years been relying on more and more mainstream acts to sell tickets but the Hellfest line up is always awesome!
Tell us about the stunning Horsley Hale Farm and how it came to be a wedding venue?
Having both grown up on farms, Steph and I always wanted our boys Max and Zach to experience the same freedoms that we’d had as children. Living in a pair of wellies, climbing trees, paddling in streams, building dens out of hay bales…(we still do all these things by the way!) When the opportunity to buy Horsley Hale Farm came along it was a complete no brainer. It was the first and only property we viewed and we literally bought it on the spot. The farm is utterly unique and there is nowhere else quite like it anywhere nearby. Ten acres, completely enclosed by mature trees, with meadow, paddocks, a fishing lake and stunning landscaped gardens, the farm is in real contrast to the flat Cambridgeshire countryside which surrounds it. It really does feel like an oasis in the Fens.
I’d always planned to set up a Glamping site (which we have) however after a couple of months of watching the most beautiful sunsets over the lake, it became clear that the farm was the perfect setting for weddings.
What sort of space is available to hire for a wedding and do you have any facilities on site?
The area available to hire is six acres altogether, which comprises the glamping meadow, two large marquee paddocks, a 125m avenue of poplar trees (which looks incredible hung with bunting or festoon), woodland plus the lake and its surrounding gardens. We have a large and newly gravelled car park, a dedicated 32 amp power supply to the tipi paddocks as well as power to various points around the lake and fresh water taps in all the paddocks. Our glamping meadow boasts 10 beautifully appointed Bell tents as well as luxury eco toilets and hot showers.
Do you offer any additional services such as planning, catering or a marquee?
The only additional services we offer in house are hay bale seating and bar services. However our couples are not obliged to use them. And while we do have a list of fantastic recommended suppliers for other things, couples are free to use whomever they wish.
It’s great to see that you have glamping available at your beautiful venue. Can you tell us more about your bell tents and where they are situated?
Our bell tents are the biggest we could find! 6 metres in diameter and each with a handmade superking size bed plus room for four more singles to accommodate even the biggest families. Super comfy mattresses, luxury duvets, pillows, linen, chandeliers, fairy lights and solar charging points mean glampers are far from roughing it. The glamping meadow is at the opposite end of the site to where most couples choose to have their marquee or tipi meaning when it’s all got a bit much for some guests, they can get away from the noise and enjoy some peace and quiet or relax around the giant fire pit.
If couples need more bell tents than we have on site have then we can hire in from our suppliers or couples are free to organise themselves.
Do you also offer BYO tents for camping at your farm?
Yes we do and we are more than happy for guests to bring in campervans and caravans as well. These can be sited in the paddock directly next to the glamping meadow meaning campers have easy access to the glampsite toilets as well as the firepit and there is no need to break up the party!
If our readers were to book Horsley Hale Farm, what can they expect?
Exceptional support at all stages of the process. We always pick up the phone and we are incredibly quick to respond to emails. We’ll liaise with your suppliers to make sure they have everything they need and keep you updated throughout without you having the play the middle man to every conversation. We are always on the farm so are happy to meet suppliers and show them around whether you are there or not. We get stuck in, literally get our hands dirty and really do bend over backwards to ensure everyone is happy.
How do couples know if Horsley Hale Farm is right for them?
Horsley Hale Farm is the perfect venue for a couple who genuinely want to put their own creative stamp on their wedding day. If you’ve got crazy ideas then bring them on. We love to hear them and we love seeing them brought to life even more!
What’s your best piece of advice for couples who’re trying to choose their wedding venue?
Don’t just go with a venue because of the way it looks. It may be absolutely stunning but there are so many other things to consider. Get to know the team behind the venue and make sure you like them and feel that you could work with them. Think about the boring stuff like power, water, parking and access and make sure that the practical aspects are all covered to avoid expense and headaches further down the line.
What are some of your favourite memories from previous weddings/couples you have worked with?
A groom and his ushers sat on top of a trailer full of straw bales in the sunshine is a favourite of mine. And also the whole family hiding under a willow tree to watch our first ceremony across the lake, looking at all the happy faces and realising that we were right. This is a bloody lovely place for a wedding!
Finally, what’s your quote/motto at Horsley Hale Farm?
Ha ha! That’s a good one. We often find ourselves saying “I’m sorry we’re tired and dirty. It’s only because we work so hard!
