My goodness do I love today’s shoot. It is beautiful. From the styling of the bride to the eclectic bohemian decor, this shoot captures everything I am loving about the wedding industry at the moment and that wild earthy bohemian trend we are seeing so much of. I’m talking about the messy knotted hair, the jacket and hat, the boots, the sunglasses, the burnt orange and dusty pink colour scheme, the flowers, that perfect blend of vintage boho and modern boho – this shoot has it all and it has been put together perfectly.
Set in wild Dartmoor, this slice of wedding heaven was put together by the very talented Nikki of Knots and Kisses and showcases why its an exciting time to be getting married in the UK, not only because of the ideas it displays but also the suppliers it features. The UK wedding industry is full of so many incredibly talented suppliers at the moment that you are completely spoilt for choice. It’s come leaps and bounds from when I was planning my wedding in 2011-13 and this shoot is testimony to that with the likes of Clare Kinchin Photography, Keeping It Vintage, The Prop Factory, Poppy Perspective, The Updo Girl, Lauren Hunt Jewellery, Emma Roberts MUA, Joanna Game Flowers and Claire Makes Cakes all taking part. Through this shoot and the awesome suppliers involved, Nikki wanted to showcase how amazing an outdoor wedding in the UK can be and I think you’ll agree she succeeded.
Enjoy lovely peeps and make sure you hit that ‘pin it’ button!
Wild Landscapes, Coachella Vibes and Ponies….
Living on the edge of Dartmoor gives you the wonderful opportunity of exploring it’s vast wild landscapes and stunning open skies. The opportunity to shoot in this stunning wild landscape is incredibly special and I knew that I wanted to create a shoot on the very top of the moor at the stunning Haytor which would make the most of this gorgeous landscape.
The inspiration for the shoot was not only to capture the amazing colours and textures of the moor but to blend with a modern boho style with a slight mid-west Coachella feel … but still totally English Moorland! The added addition of the gorgeous moorland ponies on the day made sure it definitely still had that feel of Dartmoor to it.
We wanted to show how amazing an outdoor wedding in the UK could be. Dartmoor is an amazing location and has some wonderful settings for a Humanist ceremony or Vow renewal especially … and there are some gorgeous hotels and accommodation within the National Park to spend your first evening as a married couple.
To echo trends in interiors and fashion and to give a lovely autumnal feel the colour palette was rusts, ochres and terracottas mixed with blush pink, black and ivory. I wanted lots of texture to the look so the addition of plenty of fabrics, sheepskins and rattan worked perfectly.
The colour palette was finished to perfection by stunning flowers from Joanna Game with gorgeous roses and berries and the most stunning dahlias & cosmos.
To create that relaxed wedding feel we wanted, a festival picnic style atmosphere was created on the moor with low Moroccan style tables and low seating with cushions and rugs. We mixed Mexican style and Ikat prints to create a festival vibe but kept structures modern and created a modern version of a tipi structure to display the beautiful cake from Claire Makes Cakes which echoed the boho prints and fabrics and the beautiful autumn colours.
The look for the model was complimented perfectly with boho style dresses from Poppy Perspective which looked beautiful and dramatic against the Dartmoor landscape and we were incredibly lucky, despite the odd rain shower, to have the dark dramatic skies which worked perfectly with the look of the shoot. Photographer Clare Kinchin knew how important these skies were to the look and, having worked so much on the moors, captured Nola, our model, against these vistas.
Hair from The Up Do Girl was kept loose and festival style with braid work and dark dramatic make up from Emma Roberts suited the autumnal colour palette and festival style.
